The Eternal Bookshelf

Reading the Universe, One Book at a Time

Myself and Eternal Bookshelf

Greetings from my little corner of the Universe.

Immortality is achieved, not by living on in the afterlife, but by having an impact on others in this life. Any attempt on my part to achieve the status of other “Immortals”, those whose names we remember because of the great things they did, would likely be in vain. Though this great status is only achieved by a few, we can all try our best to have as big an impact as possible, each in own own way. This blog is my attempt to express my love of books and hopefully encourage others to read. It is my sincerest belief that reading can teach us both about the world outside us and the world inside our own minds.

Happy reading and writing,

Peace and love from Ani Sharmin

About Myself

My name is Ani Sharmin, and this is my blog, The Eternal Bookshelf. I am, among other things, a student, a Harry Potter fan, a reader, a writer, a lover of science, and a person who is obsessed about random topics.

I don’t like to share much information about myself online. (Even the name is a pseudonym.) Via this blog, though, you’ll probably learn about some of my beliefs and opinions on various topics, though probably not much about my personal life.

My Writing at The Eternal Bookshelf

I started this blog as a place to write, because I often feel compelled to write. I find myself formulating arguments, essays, and speeches in my mind — in a very random and incoherent way, soon to be forgotten if I don’t write them down. (I’ve also often found that my posts in the comments sections of other people’s blogs become really long because I have a lot to say.) I write because I love it, and I write even if no will will read my words. I write because, within me, there is a desire to do so; I write because, to me, there are few things as wonderful as writing.

I have always wanted a place to post my musings on books I love, hence my blog’s title is Eternal Bookshelf. People may die, but words and ideas live on, changing the world long after their authors are dead. My aim is to read the words that others have written and find in them some inspiration, some insight, some aspect of life that makes me think in a new way and to share that with others though my own writing.

I have been greatly affected by my education and think it is important to write about the value of education in various subject areas. Supporting science and history education specifically is not just important due to the subject matters themselves (though they are important for this reason) but also because education is often attacked in our society and therefore deserves to be defended.

I am also interested in religion and atheism. Religion is a fascinating topic to me. This, combined with the fact that religion has a great impact on our society today, are two of the main reasons why I write about religion on this blog.

I write about equal rights and freedom as well, because these are necessary to make a better society and world.

Statement of Purpose/Manifesto/Random Objectives I Aim To Accomplish By Writing on this Blog, Which Nobody Will Read, Anyway

It is among my sincerest beliefs that it is important to express ourselves. Freedom of speech must be, not just in our law, but also in our hearts. The right to freedom of speech must not only be defended in the courts but also exercised.  So, in a way, this blog is my way of exercising my freedoms.

Reading has a had a very big impact on my life, and I want to share that with other people. It’s my (probably idealistic) hope to inspire people to read and, if they haven’t yet found books they enjoy, to go to the library and look around.

Equal rights are important, and I hope by writing about equality to help (in some small way) make things a little better.

I want to participate, in some small way, in the defense of education.

We live in a strange world.  I guess, in the end, I want the same thing that anyone would — to leave a mark, to leave something that says, “I was here.”

Live long and prosper,

Ani Sharmin

  1. There’s a 0 after all of your links, see under the ‘Atheism’ category to see what exactly I am talking about.
